Hi all,

Solver consistently fails within EKOS. Log file excerpt below:

When I capture an image manually and run these args with the exception of -W against the image, it solves in about 7 seconds.

What am I doing wrong?

QHY6 hangs and dissappears when aborting process in Ekos - by: transneptuniano

Hi!

After a while we have installed Linux Mint 19 and the newer version of KStars/Ekos.
All seems to work fine (and much more confidently that two years ago when our first try!) but there's an issue with our QHY6 guiding camera.
Ekos detects the ccd and we can guide well with Ekos or PHD2. The problem manifests when aborting guiding or image sequence without finalize it. Then, QHY6 hangs and then dissapears, it seems not detected by S.O. At first we thought it could be an issue caused by using a usb wire too large so we changed wire but an 1.8 m. USB 2.0 type B to a A and an extension amplified cable. The issue remains, to see again QHY6 we must close pc, wait a few seconds (30" aprox) to wipe out any electrical current and then, restart it. When starting KStars again, voilà, here it is QHY6.
We'll be very grateful if any of you can bring to us some clues...
Thanks in advance!!!

Hello All,

If anyone can please inform on how to setup the INDI server path in KStars running on Windows then that would be great for me. I've installed the INDI server for windows and ASCOM driver as well. I'm able to run my Celestron AVX from Stellarium and Cartes Du Ciel but not through KStars. If anything else is also missing then please inform accordingly.

Thanks,
Nikul

Taking time off - by: knro

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I was devastated to the loss of my two dogs. We've been together for years and I love them immensely. Unfortunately, they were lost yesterday due to heat stroke because of high humidity along with playing & exercise which turned out to be a deadly combination. Guilt overcame me and my heart was torn to see Juli & Tommy depart this world right in front of my eyes. I felt so helpless. There are no words to describe my attachment to them. A candle in my life is forever dark now.

I need time to grieve and recover so I am taking sometime off. Hopefully not too long. I appreciate your understanding of this matter. I hope no one goes through this pain. Rest in Peace my angels.

FYI - Windows running Synscan,Android Phone running Sky Safari, - by: stash

FYI - just did a test running a set up as follows :-

Windows Vista running Synscan App Pro v1.9 and CDC using Ascom SW Mobile Ascom driver

Android phone running Sky Safari v5 connected to Windows Vista Synscan App pro

Fedora 28 running Kstars and IndiLib Synscan connected to Windows Vista Synscan App Pro via 11885 UDP

An ESP286 connected to a SW AZGOTO providing Wireless connection to Windows Vista Synscan App pro using UDP 11880 - in effect emulating SW Wifi adapter

All worked I was able to do GOTO's from CDC or Sky Safari or Kstars and the mount moved and ALL the Planetarium software involved followed the Scope

If only SW would bring out the App on Linux - I have asked them if they might - dont hold your breathe - this would be my ultimate aim as the SWAZ Indi driver just isn't hacking it and looks like no development is being done - I cant haven't the skill set :-)

Does any one know of a good open Android Mini box thats rooted to allow me to connect to it via a vnc viewer to start the SW Synscan App - might use that as an option.

Dont expect its anyone else's "cup of tea" but FYI (For your Information) - Clear Skies :-)

Help a new user. Cannot connect a Canon DSLR to Ekos in Windows - by: albeltrang73

Hi

Yesterday I downloaded the latest version of Kstars (2.9.8 ) and Ekos for Windows 10. The program runs smoothly and I can control the mount (iOptron CEM60) and the focuser (Microtouch) through the ASCOM drivers since I downloaded INDI server.

There must be something I'm doing wrong because I cannot connect the T1i Canon DSLR nor the Orion Starshoot Autoguider. When I'm creating the Profile in the Profile Editor, the Local mode is inactive and the only mode available is Remote. How can I activate the local mode? I guess it's necessary for the Kstars-Ekos native drivers to connect to my equipment. Is that true?

All of the gear is connected in the right way to the laptop, so the issue is not about the cables.

The steps I'm following are these:

1- Select the profile created (with the issue of being remote, which I think is the culprit here)
2- Start INDI. This loads the ascom drivers for the mount and the focuser. Since the DSLR and guide camera are not ASCOM, they are not seen.
3- I don't have to use Connect Devices, since this is done automatically when starting INDI.

By the way, when I try to save the aperture and focal length of the primary and guide telescope under the Mount tab, a message appears on the bottom of Ekos window saying "Failed to save telescope information".

Since I'm new to the software, I'm sure there must be something I'm doing wrong.

Your help is much appreciated.

Alfredo

PEC control for Celestron Nexstar - by: basilr

It would be a big help if PEC control was available with INDI. Newer versions of Nexstar have this available, here:
www.paquettefamily.ca/nexstar/NexStar_AUX_Commands_10.pdf

Right now the only reason I need pick up the hand controller is to turn on PEC playback. This setting is not remembered after hibernating or turning off the mount. Having the ability to turn on PEC playback would make remote operation complete (for me and probably most others).

I'd be happy to do testing with my CGE-Pro mount.
Many thanks in advance.

Search function for settings - by: sbradley07

It's tough to do a search using the keyword "search", so forgive me if this feature request has been submitted before.

Can a "search function" be added to the kstars configuration/settings dialog to make it easier to find things. Admittedly, I am still learning this software, and I don't always know where everything is. Some software (one's with lots of config settings like Windows) provide a type-down search to locate specific settings. This would be extremely helpful in kstars/ekos. Thanks.

single complete black frames between correct ones from ASI290 - by: RogueSquadron

Hi, I use an ASI 290 MC for guiding and recently it starts showing complete black frames in-between guiding. First I thought it was clouds in the sky, but that's not the case.

Sometimes it helps to switch binning to 2x2, it then displays stable frames, immediately when switching back to 1x1 the frames get completely black again.

I use sub framing with a 128 pix box. Does anyone else have this issue?

Cheers

Ascom Focuser with Ekos - by: flyingeagle

Hi there,
3 years ago I build an Arduino focuser. The only driver for this is an Ascom driver. Is it possible on linux to use it?
On windows with the Indi Server it runs, but i want to use it on a linux machine.
The Focuser is the Jolo Focuser.
github.com/sirJolo/ascom-jolo-focuser
Is it possible in Linux over wine to install it and use the indi server to get it work?
All other Hardware work fine for me except the focuser.

SONY SLT-A55 not connecting to INDI - by: philpugh51

New user of KSTARS / INDI here.

I have a Sony SLT-A55 that I would like to use for imaging. Reading the information - which can be a bit confusing sometimes - it should work.
When I start EKOS I get a pop up :-

"[WARNING] Warning: Didn't find an exposure widget! Are you sure the camera is set to Bulb mode? "

It is in BULB mode.

I am running UBUNTU 18.04 with latest INDI - all software installed from scratch 2 days ago and latest updates applied. Below is an extract from the INDI log file.

Any pointers please?

Hi,

Poss problem with DSLR which implies from tests hat it is something to do with mirror lock and occurs over 9 secs exp - does not matter is native or fits and the non mirror lock files produced are more exposed and Indi restarts the image capture and seems to work 2nd time. Please see attached logs. Have tested on RPI3 Ubuntu 16,Fedora 28 AMD desktop and UP Core Ubuntu 16.04 - all do it.

MAX_EXP_RETRIES does not work in indi_asi_ccd - by: klaus

$

As I still have issues getting images from my ASI120MM when used together with EQMod I took a look into the code of indi_asi_ccd.cpp. When requesting an image, lets say one second exposure time, the log is flooded with "ASIGetExposureStatus failed. Restarting exposure..." messages. From my point of view a counter inside ASICCD::getExposure() should prevent such a possibly infinite loop. The retry counter is initialized inside the function but the function is called anew when retrying to get an image. Thus the counter is reset to zero again and thus making it useless. I'm referring to stable PPA code. Agree? Disagree?

Horizon Data - by: RogueSquadron

I read in old posts from 2016 about a horizon module to take local horizon constraints like neighboring buildings into account.

I could not find it in the latest KStars version. Is this module still around? Would be very handy to incorporate this in the scheduler's calculation for the best targets.

Language of Ekos/Kstars - by: Chris2060

Dear Indi-Community,
Dear Jasem aka knro,

I have been at a Telescope-Meeting and Astrophotography-Course in Falera (Switzerland). link: www.mirasteilas.net/
We had superb weather conditions and took some great pictures.
During the lectures concerning the astrophotography workflow, they used about 15 different programs to control one imaging train. I can imagine, that it is not very pleasing and attractive for beginners to learn every program. In addition to that, most of them cost some money.
So I asked them if they knew the program Kstars & Ekos. I was very surprised, that nobody knew about it, so I showed them the features it has. They really liked it and most of them said, that they are going to test it.
I also showed them the well-done tutorials on the indilib webpage. A few of them were wondering if the program (and the tutorials) is available in German.
I wasn't sure and quickly looked it up but didn't really find an answer to it.

(@knro) If there is no german language, I would like to know if it is possible to create a language package for Ekos/Kstars?!

I am doing some (half automated) sequence astrophotography with Ekos as my matriculation (final) project of high-school. (It is called "Maturaarbeit" in Switzerland)
Additional to that I plan to translate/write a small handbook for Ekos in german with an explanation to every device we have in the observatory of our school, so interested students have less struggle to start with astrophotography. :-)

So my question is if I can contribute to this Open-Source project Kstars by translating the GUI to german.

It would mean very much to me and I guess Indi could be spread into more parts of the world like that, which it absolutely deserves.

Thank you!
Chris
