Support for Takahashi Temma2M/2Z mounts? - by: Kenie

Hi,

I’m considering to add Stellarmate or ZWO ASIAIR to my setup. My setup is Takahashi EM-11 Temma2M mount, BORG 107FL and Nikon D810a etc. I also want to buy an autoguide camera of either ZWO or QHYCCD and now researching features and functions of Stellarmate and ZWO ASIAIR. Now I found a blog saying ASIAIR does not work Takahashi Temma 2Z and 2M mounts. According to my understanding, both Stellarmate and ASIAIR are working with same INDI driver, and I suspect neither Sterllarmate nor ASIAIR works with my Takahashi Temma 2M mount. Does anyone know if INDI driver supports with Takahashi Temma 2Z/Temma2M mounts? Is there any plan to fix the problem or update INDI driver so as to support Takahashi Temma2Z/Temma2M mounts? I am a very beginner and do not have much knowledge about INDI, so please forgive my crazy questions. Thanks.

Automatically create hotspot in Ubuntu MATE - by: simingx

Hi all,
I installed the AstroPi3 build, and it seems to be working OK. How do I set up the Rpi so that it creates a hotspot if it does not connect to an access point (e.g. outdoors away from home)?
The shortcuts for creating the hotspot are there, I'm just not sure how to run them automatically.
Thanks!

Canon 20D exposure time - by: Herrhausen

Hi, my 20D can't do exposures >30s anymore. When I attempt a 60s exposure the shutter closes after 30s. Then nothing happens for another 30s and after that the frame is downloaded and shown in Fitsviewer. The 20D's dials had been set to "M" and "bulb". Build: 2018-11-15T10:52:54Z

The logfile shows:

[2018-11-19T17:36:19.097 CET DEBG ][ org.kde.kstars.indi] - Canon DSLR EOS 20D (normal mode) : "[DEBUG] Finding optimal exposure setting for 60 seconds in shutterspeed (count=56)... "
[2018-11-19T17:36:19.097 CET DEBG ][ org.kde.kstars.indi] - Canon DSLR EOS 20D (normal mode) : "[DEBUG] 0 sBest match: 3econds Index: 1 "
[2018-11-19T17:36:19.097 CET DEBG ][ org.kde.kstars.indi] - Canon DSLR EOS 20D (normal mode) : "[DEBUG] Setting radio/menu widget shutterspeed: 1 (30) "

Obviously shutter speed "BULB" should have been selected instead of 30s. The "force bulb" enabled or disabled setting has no effect on this.

definitions of FITS headers DATAMIN and DATAMAX? - by: Doliometer

I don't understand how DATAMIN and DATAMAX in the FITS header are derived from the data. When I look at the data table in FV, all the entries are positive integers, but the header entries for DATAMIN and DATAMAX are by definition double precision decimals. How to get from one to the other?

So far I have found the function getMinMax in indiccd.cpp which is simple enough routine for finding extreme values. So I guess the float values come from the function getFrameBuffer for which I have not yet seen the source but will look for. But until then, I'm wondering what could be the reason to use decimal fractions to represent extreme values of binary integers?

Thanks.

Pegasus Focuscube has timeout errors - by: wimvb

I've run into problems with my Pegasus Focuscube.
I can connect to it from Ekos (Windows, Indi on Rock64), but all I get is timeout errors after connecting. The focuser may get a temperature reading, but other than that it's completely unresponsive.
Here's my setup:
Ekos on Windows (I have also tried Ekos locally)
Indi on a Rock64 (arm64) with Ubuntu 16.04
I use the nightly build for indi: 1.7.5 from nov 18
I also have an eqmod mount connected, but I have tried without the mount (only focuser) without any difference.
The usb cable is connected directly to the sbc, no hubs used.
Symbolic names for the usb ports: /dev/focus for the focuser and /dev/telescope for the mount
The mount connects fine when I use this symbolic name in Ekos, but the focuser doesn't. It needs the proper ttyUSB name (/dev/ttyUSB0 on my latest try), and no port scanning. Any other setting and it won't connect.
Under these settings the focuscube will connect (although it may take 2 tries)
After that I only get GetFocusParams timeout errors.

Does anybody have a sollution for this? Is it a timing problem somewhere?
I tried to set the baudrate to anything other than the standard 19200 b/s, but that won't let me connect at all.
Btw, when I check the device with indi_getprop two things can happen:
1. when the mount is also connected (and simulator ccd), the focuser doesn't even show up in the properties list
2. when only the focuser is connected, this is (some of) the listing

Avalon Driver Setup - by: Andyb7788

Hi everyone,

I'm new to LInux, INDI, KStars and Ekos. I have an Avalon LInear mount with StarGO system. I've read the 'Avalon mzero Stargo with lx200 protocol' thread and would like to try the Avalon INDI driver. I haven't posted in that thread as I didn't want to dilute it with beginner questions.

Can I just check should I follow the README instructions here to compile and install the driver?

github.com/sterne-jaeger/indi/blob/ken-s...y/indi-avalon/README

I currently have the INDI LIbrary with basic drivers installed. Would I need to install anything else before compiling and installing the Avalon driver?

Regards,
Andy.

polar alignment - by: viksmi

I have a CEM60 and Orion SSAG connected to INDI and using PHD2 guiding, when I start polar alignment - the mount goes below the horizon even though the polaris is within the FOV on my home position. What is going on?

Just sharing a successful night - by: PK

Here in Kampala, on the Equator, it is rare to have nice clear skies at night. So when it happens randomly, I need to run up on the roof, set up my mount, and go through the long process of polar aligning by the Polar Iteration method, as I cannot see either polar region. So last weekend it happened. I was getting ready to crawl into bed at midnight, and looked out my window to see stars! Sleep be dammed. I made the three trips to roof carrying my CEM26P, battery box, and all the scope gear. In the dark, I set up the mount, leveled it, and pointed it north using my iPhone’s compass. I live at 00 degrees, 019 minutes, so here I am North. If I drive an hour to my other astro site and it’s in the Southern Hemisphere. Anyway, I started the polar iterate alignment routine on the CEM25P, expecting this to take a long time, and was pleasantly surprised that I was very close already! After four iterations, I was almost dead on – not perfect, but close enough I hoped.

I started up my NanoPC-T4, which starts up from a cold power-on to being ready to log on with VNC in six seconds. EKOS loaded all my gear (mount via wifi, ASI1600MM, EFW, LodeStar X2, and Moonlight focuser. I image through a WO Star71.

High overhead was Orion, but I decided to image the Rosette. I wanted to do this narrow band, and decoded to start with Ha. I set up a program to capture 20 x 120 second images in HA, the 20 in OIII, and 20 in SII. Using KStars, I directed the mount ton slew to the Rosette, and then started the alignment with astrometry. The NanoPC is fast, and I was dead on to the nebula in about 60 seconds. Next, I autofocused through the Ha filter, and that went quick too – about another minute.
But when I tried to calibrate the autoguider it failed. It was that bug that doesn’t let it calibrate – which I have seen before. So I switched the “via” option to the Lodestar camera itself, which I know wouldn’t work because I was not using an ST4 cable. But I have found that if I do this, then let the system fail again, and then switch the “via” back to the mount, it would calibrate fine. As before, this worked.

Then I was pleasantly surprised to see that the guiding was very tight!

I started the program and began capturing the images without a problem. But after 11 images, clouds came over and I had to stop the session. I was disappointed with the weather, but that’s the price I pay for working in this part of the world. So I moved the equipment back under cover and went to bed, at 2:30 AM.

I hope to be able to grab the rest of the data, but this is one of two rainy seasons here, so I may have to wait until January – and by then, the Rosette may be too low.
So here is the single Ha exposure, at just 22 minutes of time. I want to double the exposure time to remove more noise, but that too will have to wait. Clear skies to you! I have none.

Sony A7III / A7RII, which driver? - by: simingx

Hi all,
I'm trying to connect my Sony A7III (ILCE-7M3) and A7RII (ILCE-7RM2) to my Raspberry Pi, which driver in INDI should I select?
It works (somewhat) with GPhoto CCD (but I couldn't get it to capture anything other than 1 second, maybe I will try again), but does not work at all with Sony DSLR (gives error about not being able to communicate with camera).
Am I missing something?

Onstep works with serial but not Wifi connection - by: simingx

Hi there,
I am running my Onstep controller (version 1.15g alpha) through a Raspberry Pi.
When I connect to /dev/ttyACM0, the alignment, slewing etc works well.
However if I connect through the Wifi, it doesn't work so well. The INDI driver can connect and talk to the mount, set the time/coordinates etc.
But, nothing happens when I click "1-Star" / Manual Align, also when I click the "North", "South", "East" and "West" buttons, an error "Error stopping N/S" or "..."E/W motion" will be produced.
Any clues as to what is happening?
Thanks!

RPI3 B running using Raspex O/S Ubuntu 18.10 based - by: stash

FYI :-

As it s cloudy I have been playing with various O/S and have come across RASPEX which claims to run in 64bit on RPI3 B and RPI3 B+(not tried 64bit version yet) but does have so good features builtin - plus ,only testing at the moment, Kstars/Indi seems to work (only used Synscan App Pro emulator on Windows Vista so Indi Synscan can connect) - Canon DSLR seems to work ok taking Native picture and Slewing works ok (simulation mode !) but it does go with a number of options already set up - as per Stretch.

Oh and Skysafari v5 works!

Uname says its running 4.14.76-v8+ AARCH64 so is that full 64bit or 64bit with 32bit as well ???????

Anyone else used RASPEX ?

anyone used these guys - based world wide inc UK - by: stash

Hey guys!

Wanted to try PHDGuiding tonight, via Remote Macbook.

Set all up like in Jasems video. But i can not get a connection at all.

The strange thing is, when i use my old profile WITHOUT PPHD, instead the internal guider, i connects flawless.

I can´t find out what the problem is...

ideas?

Best internal guider settings? - by: the.cakemaker

Testing, Testing, Testing here, because of moon.

i´d like all the KStars Users here to post there internal guider sessions, which work for them. Maybe we could get a trend for best guider settings this way.

I am trying atm lots of different settings. And the far best results are with the setting "fast" in the algorithm.

This causes a guiding-curve of most of the time under 0,5 Arcseconds! BUT: too bad... there are then peaks, about 1 per minute, with more then 2 arcsecs that kill the exposure.... Since they are not regular, i do not think it´s something to do with the Periodic failure...

Using Temma 2 Driver for new coordinate - by: xuchang970621

We are sending commands to indiserver that is connected to Temma 2 telescope as a client.
We are able to move and stop moving the telescope using the following commands:

etc. for North, West, East

But we cannot set the coordinates to move the telescope using RA and DEC(in TRACK mode), or to synch the coordinates(in SYNC mode) using the commands:

Sometimes it shows the following error, but sometimes it times out without the message:

while the same commands work for the "Telescope Simulator".

We can not really see what is wrong but we suspect it is related to the geographical location and LST time not set. Are they related? Right now we are trying to go through the c++ code from indi github for Temma driver to get some clues, but it is not going well.
LAT and LONG in geographical location can be set easily; however, the TIME_UTC is in format of "text" and we cannot successfully set it. Is this time the one we need to change or not?
properties for TIME_UTC:

Hi to all,
I would like to purchase the ASI071MC PRO.
I see from this site that this CCD should be works correctly with linux adding the correct PPA for firmware.
I also see taht should be some issue related to the USB bandwidth... so is not clear for me if the ASI071MC PRO is working well with Linux.

Thanks in advance.
