PHD2: Settling failed event ignored - by: sterne-jaeger

$

In some situations, the Ekos Guiding module ignores, that PHD2 failed to start guiding. As a result, the Scheduler waits forever and neither starts capturing nor restarts guiding of PHD2.

The problem occurs, when PHD2 cannot find an appropriate guiding star, sends a"settling failed" event and terminates guiding. Briefly, the following happens:
  • 02:25:12: star lost timeout
  • 02:25:13: guiding and capturing aborted
  • 02:25:13: scheduler restarts guiding
  • 02:25:22: PHD2 reports failed to find a suitable guide star, status line: No star selected
  • 02:25 - 03:26: scheduler waits for a positive or negative answer from PHD2
Is there anybody out there who is familiar with the Ekos guiding module sources? I have an idea what to fix, but I would really appreciate having somebody who at least cross-checks it.

Noob question about Kstars/EKOS on non-stellarmate systems e.g. ODROID-N2 - by: jerry

So if I were to jump to an ODROID-N2 from Stellarmate on a RPi3B+ would just adding

as described at
launchpad.net/~mutlaqja/+archive/ubuntu/...field.series_filter=
let me continue with the bleeding edge versions as I am now with Stellarmate?

I expect that it would be on me to implement VNC and the nice AP/local host fallback that Jasem has given us in Stellarmate?

Also I see that the nightly builds on that site appear to target multiple Ubuntu releases from 16.04 - 19.04. Does that mean that one could choose to upgrade Ubuntu releases in advance of what Jasem is supporting on Stellarmate or would that be inviting disaster?

Thanks

Can't Locate Nikon Camera Using INDI Web Server on Astroberry - by: AstronoDon

Hello,

I recently installed astroberry on a raspberry PI 3. When running kstars on the astroberry OS, i am able to connect and control my Nikon d5300.

When I attempt to connect to my equipment through INDI web server and kstars on another computer, it cannot locate my Nikon camera. I know my connections work through INDI web because I can find my guide cam and mount. I know the Nikon driver works because I can control it through kstars on the astroberry. I just can't get it to work from another computer.

If anyone has any idea what I can do to fix the issue please let me know.

Thanks,
Don

StellarMate OS v1.4.1 ignores config.txt ?? - by: jbarabas

It looks like the OS ignores all changes I made in config.txt. For example, I rotated the display for my external touchscreen, I changed screen resolution in the config.txt. But it doesn't take any effect, why ??
On 1.3 it still works as expected.

What is your imaging workflow when using Ekos? - by: RugbyRene

Hi there,

A noob question, so apologies.

I'm relatively new to Ekos and astrophotography. I was wondering what workflow people use when using KStars/Ekos for their imaging session? How do you step through the various tabs? Do you use a specific order?

Thanks in advance?

Mac + QHY9 + CFW2-S + SW EQ6R-Pro: No funciona - by: Ochentaiocho

If you do not speak Spanish, I can make an effort and continue in English

Saludos y espero su ayuda!!!!!!

Stellarmate ver 1.4.1 and kstars 3.2.3 crashing issue - by: elken2004

Stellarmate ver 1.4.1 and kstars 3.2.3 crashing issue
I have been trying to get a stable system running, but still have issues with it crashing out no logs
Equipment as follows,
Please note the QHY128c is a full frame camera with 6056 x 4084 pixels too
RPi 3+b, QHY128c, guider QHY 5ii, GPS dongle, Joystick, EQMOD AZGTi and Wunderground.
I have hardware fixed all devices by hardware allocation as my QHY128c seemed to be unstable and crashed Kstars when taking say 20 shots.
After much to do and some reading etc I have found that the reason is purely memory (1Gig)
I finally used the System monitor and did several experiments.
I made sure all fits options were default etc, but with FITS viewer enabled I noticed that the memory was around average 97% and when it failed the sys mon froze, shortly after Kstars crashed out and sys mon resumed.
disabling FITs viewer then dropped mem usage down to an average of 76%, and no crashing.
Kstars on load takes memory to about 50% memory
Ekos started with devices connected it goes to about 52%, then with imaging upto about 76% (fits viewer disabled)
However its a pain in the butt not having viewer running while doing a session for obvious reasons
Its a shame the memory is only 1G.
Any how is there something else I can do to get over this, i have for the time being resolved to only having USB2 for it etc. especially considering it is a fast USB3 cam
On another note I have tried a Rock64, but have found that the USB3 port is weak, and the QHY128c is not happy on it, it connects then fails on download or does not connect.
cheers
Clive.

Using PEC and EQMod Mount - by: hy

I noticed while guiding that I have significant periodic error with RA on my Orion Atlas Pro. I though, perhaps it made sense to try the periodic error correction feature--though I'm not experienced with it (perhaps I'm confused on how to use it). I did the following.

I started up Indi and Ekos, pointed at Dubhe and started (Phd2) guiding. I went to Indi Control Panel --> EQMod Mount and turned on RA PPEC Training. It went yellow for about 14 minutes and then said RA PPEC training completed, and the light turned off (went grey). I assumed this meant it was successful. I then stopped guiding, set up my target (M13), clicked on Indi Control Panel --> EQMod Mount --> Turn RA PPEC to "on". I then started guiding. At this point Indi (in the EQMod Tab log) said: "Turning RA PPEC off while guiding. Turn on RA PPEC after guiding."

So , I'm confused. Can I not use PPEC while guiding? I had hoped that was the point--to improve guiding, or rather make guiding easier, by removing the periodic error component. How should this be used?

Thanks,
Hy

INDIlib with Sony DSLR driver at Raspberri Pi does not download the latest image - by: abeening

Good afternoon everbody.

Since half a year I use INDI server at a Raspberry Pi (RPI )with Raspbian "Stretch". As camera I use a Sony Alfa 6300, connected to the RPI via USB. This combination is controlled with kstars and EKOS at a Mac. Images are taken at the EKOS panel.

Lately, I have trouble to get the latest image from the camera. The camera connects correctly and answers to the commands. Exposure time, ISO setting and other parameters are set the right way. Neverheless, using "Preview", the downloaded (and displayed) image is not the latest one. It seems that an image gets "stuck" in a kind of cache and this one is downloaded every time, despite the camera, which changes correctly the exposure time and executes it, followed by a download of the old, stuck image.

Repeatedly disconnecting and connecting the camera, combined with closing and restarting kstars fixes the problem finally, but it can happen that this takes abouthalf an hour, which is valuable clear sky time.

I tried to operate the camera without SD card to discard the possibility of having a stuck image stored in this card, but without success. Thee problem persists. Also, I played with the Sony DSLR driver configuration in the INDI control panel, but without success.

I also tried to change the automount policy in Raspbian, editing the file pcmanfm/LXDE-pi/pcmanfm.conf to set the automount and startuo moubnt parameters at zero, but without succes.

Some details about my equipment:
- Raspberry Pi B3 with Raspbian "Stretch", latest updates applied. Connected to LAN with ethernet cable (cat 6)
- INDIlib 1.7.4
- Gphoto2 versions: , gphoto2: version 2.5.11, libgphoto2: 2.5.12, libgphoto2_port: 0.12.0
- INDI server web manager to stop/start the service and to configure profiles
- Camera: Sony Alfa 6300, connected to RPI with USB cable. Tried with and without powered HUB. USB mode set to "Remote" (no "Mass storage")
- kstars version 3.2.1, build 2019-04-24T18:40:46Z at MacBook pro with OS/X "Mojave", version 10.14.5, connected to LAN via 5 GHz WiFi

Other equipment at the RPI, connected to EKOS, like EQMOD mount, Baader Steeldrive focuser and LodeStar SX CCD for guiding are always working correctly. These devices are connected the same way via USB and managed in kstars at the Mac and EKOS.

My Questions:
- Has anybody had the same or similar behavior with Sony DSLRs (or even other marks) ?
- Should I change the gpoto2 settings in file ~/.gphoto/settings to change line "libgphoto=cached-images=2" to "libgphoto=cached-images=0" ?
- Is there another solution for this problem, e.g. by changing a configuration?

Maybe you need more details to investigate this problem. For the moment I would be pleased to receive some hints. The Sony Alfa 6300 is a perfect camera for deeep sky photography in the primery focus of a 200 mm F4 Newton. I enclose the photo of NGC5353 with supernova 2019ein to show what is possible.

Thank you very much for any help!
Clear skies and greeting from the Principality of Andorra.

Sleep in driver code - by: rishigarrod

Hi. I have just done some modifications to the Sesto Senso focuser. After the calibration process I tell the focuser to save all settings. This command seems to take a while and if I send it another command when it is still saving i get fatal serial comms errors. Using the debugger I see that as long as I pause after sending the command to save the settings I can then read out the setting I need. When it runs at full speed that's when I get the Serial comms error.

Is it OK to sleep in the driver code (this part is only used for the control panel) ?

Cheers

I keep getting timeouts when taking an image in the capture module - by: RugbyRene

Hi,

latest issue that I hope someone can help with.

Whenever I try to take an image with the capture module, it times out. I am using the nightly build and KSTARS 3.2.3. My camera is a ZWO ASI290MC. It connects properly but won't capture an image. I have tried with other capture software and there's no issues.

I am wirelessly connecting with my Stellarmate (which is on the same network). Have used EKOS on my laptop and directly through Stellarmate (via VNC).

If I connect the camera directly to my PCs USB port, I can capture an image. The issue only appears when the camera is connected to the Stellarmate. Could this be a comms issue with the onboard USB port?

Thanks in advance.

QHY5 not found by Ekos - by: crw4096

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting Ekos to find the qhy5 guide camera in my setup. I'm running an indi server on Raspberry Pi; here's what the indi server says about QHY5 on startup:

Once I try to connect, though, Ekos doesn't see the camera. It sees everything else (mount, filter wheel, imaging cam, focuser) but not the guide cam. I turned on logging in Ekos and tried to attach just the QHY5; the log is attached.

I wasn't sure the camera itself was the issue, but I tried it under Windows and it worked fine. The setup seemed to work several weeks ago after I upgraded to INDI 1.7.8. I say "seemed to" because I could only try it out in my living room. Today, I updated kstars, and I'm wondering if that could be the issue.

Versions:
INDI 1.7.8 on RPi
Kstars Build: 2019-05-30T09:48:47Z

Let me know if there's anything else I can provide.

Thanks,

new cfitsio release - by: Christian

$

for interested persons, a new release of cfitio was published (3.47). Since the last official release of may 2018 (3.45), an intermediate version was also published (3.46).

you could take it from git repository (git clone github.com/healpy/cfitsio.git ) or directly from the heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/fitsio/ .

- Added set of drivers for performing ftps file transfers.

- Tile sizes for compression may now be specified for any pair of
axes, where previously 2D tiles where limited to just X and y.

- Fix to ffgsky and ffgkls functions for case of keyword with long
string values where the final CONTINUE statement ended with '&'.
If the final CONTINUE also contained a comment, it was being
repeated twice when passed back through the 'comm' argument.

- Fix made to ffedit_columns() for case of multiple col filters
containing wildcards. Only the first filter was being searched.

- fits_copy_rows (ffcprw) can now handle 'P'-type variable-length
columns.

- Fix made to an obscure case in fits_modify_vector_len, where a
wrongly issued EOF error may occur.

- Added internal fffvcl() function.

Version 3.46 - Oct 2018 (Ftools release)

- Improved the algorithm for ensuring no tile dimensions are smaller
than 4 pixels for HCOMPRESS compression.

- Added new functions intended to assist in diagnosing (primarily
https) download issues: fits_show_download_progress,
fits_get_timeout, fits_set_timeout.

- Added the '-O <file>' option to fpack, which previously existed only
for funpack. Also added fpack/funpack auto-removal of .bz2 suffix
equivalent to what existed for .gz.

- For the fpack '-table' cases, warning message is now sent to stderr
instead of stdout. This is to allow users to pipe the results from
stdout in valid FITS format. (The warning message is otherwise placed
at the start of the FITS file and therefore corrupts it.)

- Fix made to the '-P' file prefix option in funpack.

- Added wildcard deletion syntax for columns, i.e. -COLNAM* will delete
the first matching column as always; -COLNAM*+ will delete all matching
columns (or none); exact symmetry with the keyword deletion syntax.

Hi all,

Trying to get this TIS camera to work on my Raspberry Pi. What's the trick?

In a test with just this camera, I invoke
Then in Ekos, attempting to connect produces this error:
This seems like an OS level error, and sure enough, there's no /dev/video0.
Output from lsusb:

Is there some additional support required for this camera in the Linux kernel that's missing?

Sorry for asking here, but there doesn't seem to be any clear documentation on v4l2

Thanks for your help,

Mount doesn't complete the meridian flip - by: JCJ

$

I am using KStars v.3.2.3 on a Mac to control a Celestron CGE Pro mount permanently installed in a dome.
While the meridian flip is executed perfectly using the scope simulator and the dome simulator, I meet some issue with my real equipment.
INDI drivers :
- Name=Celestron GPS, exec=indi_celestron_gps v.3.2
- Name=MaxDome II, exec=indi_maxdomeii v.1.3
When the target comes near the meridian :
- the dome moves from West to East
- the mount STARTS the flip but doesn't execute it completely (it comes back immediately to its initial position and doesn't move from West to East)
- as a consequence the dome comes back to its initial West position.
I tried all the possible settings on my Nexstar+ hand control (Favor Current, Favor West, Favor East, Disabled) to no avail.
Is this a problem linked to the indi_celestron_gps v.3.2 driver ?
