field rotator - by: MikeCEM60

Having fixed my plate solve problem with community help, I am looking to install a DIY field rotator on my new "ride" a TS-photoline 125 refractor which is on its way. I just might try to install a simple arduino controlled stepper which swings camera, filter and flattener around to give me the best frame, while avoiding to shoot new flats all the time.

If possible i would like to control it through Kstars, but I don't know anything about the language Kstars and Field rotators use to communicate.

Where should I look first?

did anybody try and succeed with this before?

Thanks
Michael

Flip Flat odd behavior using ESQ - by: kamisan

I have a bad habit of droning on and on, so let me present these bullet-points and then if anyone is interested you can read on:
  • Dialog pops up telling me to cover my telescope to capture calibration frames. Odd, I have Flip Flat and I told it so in the Calibration settings.
  • When a ESQ step orders the flap to move, it does so but immediately returns to the previous position.
  • The 'delay' property apparently has no effect, none that I can see at least.

I have been using INDI for just over a month. I've already used it with great success about 3 weeks ago which was the last bit of good weather. It worked flawlessly. At that time I was running INDI/Ekos on my Linux laptop (Ubuntu 16.04). Since then I installed Astroberry on a RasPi Model B. I've been practicing with it, preparing for a couple of clear nights beginning tomorrow. Tonight I practiced building Ekos Sequence Queues (ESQ). I employed these three weeks ago using my Flip Flat. I captured every type of calibration frame flawlessly.

During these past three weeks Software Updater has alerted me to patches to 1.7.6 that included INDI drivers and KStars. Without thinking I installed them. Now I suspect that there is a gremlin in the works. Tomorrow I'll test this out on my Linux laptop just to eliminate the possibility that RasPi is responsible.

Thank you.

Hi,

I experience some kstars crash one night every too.
I would like to restart it automatically when it crashes.
For this I have a process that tests the kstar process and that is able to relaunch it when it deseapears.
I would like to know if there is a proper commend line to relauch kstars and activate the scheduler in order to restart from where it was before the crash.

Thanks for your help!!

Can't run tests locally - by: ChrisRowland

I would like to run the indilib test harness locally but trying to run the indi/libindi/tests project in QT Creator gives me this error message:

CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:3 (FIND_PACKAGE):
By not providing "FindGMock.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has
asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "GMock", but
CMake did not find one.

Could not find a package configuration file provided by "GMock" with any of
the following names:

GMockConfig.cmake
gmock-config.cmake

Add the installation prefix of "GMock" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set
"GMock_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files. If "GMock"
provides a separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been
installed.

The reason I want to do this is that I had a problem with the celestrongps driver tests which I had to fix by guessing.

Also we had a problem with the signed char to int conversion that only appeared with some compilers and only emerged when the user found it. It should be possible to run tests that detect this at the CI stage.
Are there any instructions around to help with setting this up?

myFocuserPro or myFocuserPro2 and INDI - by: Viktste

I need a focuser that is Indi compatible. I really don't want to fork out £400+ for a MoonLite focuser so I have decided to build a myFocuserPro (and use the saved cash to buy myself a 3D printer...). Has anyone successfully used myFocuserPro with Indi? And are both myFocuserPro and myFocuserPro2 compatible, or is it only myFocuserPro that works with Indi?

Rollback to a previous version of KStars? - by: kamisan

I have good reason to believe that a bug was introduced to KStars on March 5th. Until it can be resolved is there a way that I can rollback to a version of KStars prior to that date? I built my Astroberry RasPi after March 5th so I don't have an image backup to go to.

Thank you.

Re:Slowdown in the Acquisition process - by: Frank

Hi guys!
I proudly use Kstars/Ekos 3.0.0 in a Macbook Pro (2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, and RAM 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3).
I acquire data with a Zwo ASI 1600 MM-CC with the cooler switched on and to which I connect the guide camera ASI 120MM-CS via the USB port. In addition, I guide through PhD2.
I noticed that the acquisition process slows down all the windows of Kstars. If I want to close the FITS previewer window it takes several seconds to do it. As a consequence of the slowdown also the countdown for the single captures is not fluid. I think it is not a problem of my Mac, owing to the fact that the others applications works quite good. I also tried to uncheck the use of the FITS preview during the process but without any good result.
How can I solve the problem?
Thank you in advance!

Franck!

Hints to help install libindi 1.7.6 on Raspbian. - by: Focaldepth

Hi,

I am having great success with libindi on RPi

My current setup RPi3B+, Raspbian stretch, libindi 1.7.4, Laptop Ubunu kstarts 2.9.x libindi 1.7.6 (was 1.7.4), tp-link travel wifi router.

I do have a few quirks that I hope will be fixed by an upgrade to 1.7.6 (for example the auto exposure for flats that was fixed a while ago).

I can only find 1.7.4 on this site.

My google searches are turning up very old instructions.

Can anyone offer some pointers as to how to get 1.7.6 installed on Raspbian.

Thanks.

Running Stellarmate on NanoPC-T4 - by: werper

Couple quick questions: Can I run the Stellarmate OS on a NanoPC-T4? If so, any potential problems? It seems to me for a little bit more money, the Nano would give me a nice bump up in performance and stability vs. a Rpi 3. Yes - No?

Thanks in advance for any info anyone can share!

Field Rotator anybody? - by: MikeCEM60

I thought being able to rotate the sensor's field of view would be certainly not necessary, but a nice thing to have, so I wonder how many here are using one of these field rotators?

and: if your's breaks today, would you buy another one?

Did you, maybe, consider one, but decided against it?

EKOS supports the feature, but eg the Moonlite focuser/rotator is >2k USD. I think my lathe and me can handle the hardware build, and probably also a small arduino type program controlling rotation of sensor, filter and reducer/flattener (who want to shoot a new set of flats every time?)

Would be sweet to integrate it functionally into EKOS too, if that's a possibility...

Thanks for your input!

Hi. New to indi and SMate.
I have only one filter for openers, an H-alfa, I put it in a ZWO filter wheel in slot no. 1. In the settings red is in position one. Is there a way to change the default filter positions, or should I go get the screwdriver and move my nb filter up?

Hope I’m posting in the right section.

Autofocus not working with Hitech Astro Focuser - by: csgardiner

Hi all,

There have been some discussions previously about using this focuser with Ekos (via Stellarmate on RPi), and I've followed the guides on setting the polling to 5000ms, etc. I tried this, and it works just fine with manual focus, I can get this pretty good. However, I want to autofocus when switching filters. What I do is manually focus reasonably close, then start the Ekos autofocus process. I set the step size to 50, then watch it move in and out by 50 steps. I can see that it goes in and out a few times, starting with 50 steps, then smaller steps, but after a few iterations, it will make some huge changes 300+ steps which will go completely out of focus and then fail.

Does anyone have any experience with this focuser, and have any hints on where to look?

Many thanks,

Craig

Solved:copy and paste - by: StephenS

No doubt a silly question : using VNC on windows to connect to Astroberry I can copy and paste from ubuntu terminal to windows but not the other direction.

The instructions here: www.realvnc.com/en/connect/docs/copy-paste-text.html
do not help ... VNC server configuration looks fine.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Stephen

Ekos Dark Library problem - by: danoz

Hi there!

New user and so far having fun setting up Pi with Astroberry Server.
I'm trying to load the dark library; but no matter how many times I try or maybe I'm doing something obviously wrong I can't select a Dark folder via Ekos/Settings/Dark Library.
It just opens a file viewr but doesn't let me choose it. It's just a static file viewer.
Am I doing something wrong?

Also; curious if this has to be done on a local instance; or can be done from the server side to be applied to captures?

Thanks !

Meade DSI III INdI driver - by: AstroNerd

Hi,
I have one of these older Meade DSI III mono cameras which has the same sensor as the Atik 314L+ and I see there is an Meade DSI INdI driver here but only for the version I And II but not the III....

www.indilib.org/devices/ccds/meade-dsi-pro.html

So is anybody able to adapt this driver to work with this camera....or is that not an option, I wish I was clever enough to do it.. :(
